US Launches Major Operation Targeting ISIS Chief Abu Bakr
al-Baghdadi After Trump’s Cryptic Tweet
New Delhi:
A cryptic social media post by former US President Donald Trump, stating “Something
very big has just happened”, triggered widespread global speculation, with
international attention focused on Washington for a possible major
announcement.
While Trump did not immediately clarify the
meaning of his statement, subsequent developments pointed toward a significant
counter-terrorism operation. According to Reuters,
as quoted by news agency ANI, the United States has launched a major military
campaign aimed at targeting Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Baghdadi
Reappeared in April After Five Years
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the dreaded
terrorist organisation Islamic State,
resurfaced for the first time in nearly five
years in a video released by the jihadist group in April this year. Although the exact date
of the video’s recording remains unclear, Baghdadi made direct reference to the
months-long battle for Baguz,
the final ISIS stronghold in easternSyria.
The battle for Baguz concluded only last month, marking the territorial
defeat of ISIS in Syria. In the video, Baghdadi is seen seated on a throne-like chair,
addressing three unidentified individuals,
whose faces were deliberately blurred. He stated that the “Battle of Baguz is over”, a rare public acknowledgement of
ISIS’s military defeat.
Global
Terror Links Under Scrutiny
The renewed focus on Baghdadi has intensified
amid growing evidence linking ISIS to recent global terror attacks.
Investigations have indicated ISIS involvement in the serial terror bombings in Sri Lanka, which targeted churches and public locations across three cities.
The coordinated attacks resulted in the deaths
of more than 300 people, while over 500 others were seriously injured,
making it one of the deadliest terror attacks in the country’s history. The
incident underscored the continued global threat posed by ISIS despite the
collapse of its territorial control.

Security analysts believe Trump’s tweet was
likely linked to the ongoing US operation against Baghdadi. However, US officials have so far refrained from releasingoperational details, citing intelligence and security considerations.
With Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi remaining one of the
world’s most wanted terrorists, global attention remains fixed on the United
States for official confirmation and further updates on the outcome of the
operation.
