Anti-government protest in Iraq again picks up, flooding of streets of Baghdad


Baghdad: Curfew was imposed in Baghdad on Monday because of the resumed anti-government protests in Iraq and the influx of students and parents on the streets. The curfew will continue from midnight on Monday until 6 am local time. So far 200 people have been killed in these demonstrations, while hundreds have been injured.

Tear gas shells left on students

Baghdad Operation Commander can be heard in government TV saying that the order will continue till further notice. Security forces fired tear gas shells at school and college students on a warning to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi. Abdul Mahdi's spokesman said on Sunday, "Those who obstruct work and schools will be punished."

The demonstration started on the issue of unemployment

Demonstrations started on the issue of decaying economy and unemployment, after a two-week break, have resumed on Friday in the cities of Baghdad and South Iraq.
